W&HM PR Relay: Keyfree technologies announces launch of world’s first digital car key solution for consumers at CES 2015

Press Release from:

TORONTO, ON – December 15, 2014 - Keyfree Technologies, a Toronto-based technology company, announced today they will be launching the world's first digital car key solution for consumers at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), taking place from January 6 to 9, 2015 in Las Vegas.

The Keyfree product replaces physical car keys with digital keys which are stored on a smartphone. In addition to enabling a digital car key solution, the system also provides a platform to incorporate other features currently on the market, such as vehicle tracking, diagnostic monitoring and remote starting.  The Keyfree system involves a small device installed within a vehicle that connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth technology.

"This is the first technology that allows car owners to leave their keys at home," says Shane Wright, CEO of Keyfree.  "The key is in your phone, just like your camera, your maps and your calendar.  Users can share digital keys with their family and never have to hunt for misplaced keys again.  And with military-grade encryption, Keyfree is far more secure than current key fob technology."

Digital Keys
With a Keyfree digital key, a car automatically unlocks as the user approaches.  The car can then be started with a push-to-start button. Users can share digital keys with family or friends through the Keyfree app, and users can set customized restrictions or revoke keys instantly.

Connecting the car to your smartphone
The system allows a user to leverage the power of smartphone technology to connect with their car seamlessly through one device. With the Keyfree app, users can view car location, usage history, vehicle diagnostics and engine fault notifications.  For older vehicles, the platform allows consumers to seamlessly add on features such as remote starting or hands-free dialling.

Car Sharing and Car Rental
"In addition to bringing convenience and simplicity to consumers, digital keys are set to revolutionize car sharing and car rental," says Mr. Wright.  "Consumers continue to embrace the convenience and cost savings of car sharing. As well, car rental companies are exploring alternative business models where customers can access vehicles anytime, anywhere through their smartphone without line-ups or staff. Digital keys are set to be the backbone of these solutions."

The International Consumer Electronics Show (International CES) showcases more than 3,500 exhibitors, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and more; a conference program with 250 sessions; and more than 150,000 attendees from more than 140 countries. The CES attracts the world's business leaders and pioneering thinkers to a forum where the industry's most relevant issues are addressed.
